"Our City is located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains in Northern New Mexico. It is a rural city with hills, trees, and heavy brush and vegetation with not many street lights with a hunting population that is most often armed with a rifle rather than not. This terrain limits our visibility at night tremendously, making recon difficult and allowing suspects to use the cover to their advantage.
Recently, our Department was involved with a suspect randomly shooting at houses on the edge of town. When officers arrived, they immediately took fire and became pinned down with the residents they were trying to assist. Due to the brush and dark, officers couldn’t fix the suspect and he was able to remain above officers and move undetected in the cover. Our tactical team was dispatched and arrived only to take fire as we suited up. We took inner perimeter and evacuated officers and civilians. We had one generation 1 monocular that barely allowed us to see where to walk, let alone see the suspect. Eventually the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
Our Department ordered the N-Vision GT-14 Night Vision Monocular shortly after and put them to use the night we got them. They have been used in simple warrant arrests, narcotic investigations, and practically every day (and every night) operation we’ve run. The GT-14 has been an excellent tool assisting our tactical team and an additional tactical advantage during night operations. While we haven’t put them to use against armed assailants - yet - the GT-14 was used during a week-long vandalism surveillance which helped us ID and arrest a suspect accused of thousands of dollars of damage.
We will continue to use the GT-14 and look forward to many years of 'owning the night'. Thank you."
